Report: The Toronto Maple Leafs are closing in on an extension for Joseph Woll

The Toronto Maple Leafs have contracts to tend to this offseason as the total number of free agents, both restricted and unrestricted, total up into the double digits. One player who isn’t on the list of 2024 free agents but may be receiving a new contract is goaltender Joseph Woll.

The goaltender is still under contract for the final year of his entry-level deal, but Kevin Weekes is the first to report that the Leafs may be working on an extension for Woll once the calendar turns from June to July.

Details on Woll’s contract

Drafted in 2016 62nd overall by the Leafs, Woll signed his entry-level contract (ELC) in February 2022. He’s since started 34 regular season games and four playoff games. With the Leafs’ goaltending situation ever uncertain, Woll could find himself slotted into a more defined starter role in the coming years.

Earning $767K per season over his ELC, the report from Weekes suggests that Woll’s contract may be in the range of $3.5M–$4.0M on a three-year deal, which commences for the 2025–26 season.

Busy offseason for the Leafs

The Leafs aren’t sitting idle as they’ve made a ton of changes to the coaching staff, recently adding Marc Savard as an assistant, and will have to tend to their roster over the coming months.

Buckle up, it should be an interesting summer.
