Toronto Maple Leafs re-sign Max Domi for four years

The Toronto Maple Leafs sixth highest point producer from last year is back, as Brad Treliving has re-signed forward Max Domi to a four year, $3.75M AAV contract.

Domi finished last year strong, finding his game after being put on a line with star centre Auston Matthews and Tyler Bertuzzi. Domi and Matthews’ chemistry seemed almost like Marner and Matthews’, Domi racked up assists feeding Matthews in premium scoring spots, and scored 22 points in the last 29 games of the year.

Treliving signed Domi to a one-year, prove-it deal last year, worth $3M over one season. A $3.75M contract seems fair, considering Domi played to about his career averages, a bit of a bargain at $3M but not worth too much more.

It’ll be very interesting to see where new head coach Craig Berube plays Domi, he struggled as a centre quite a bit last season, but the Leafs might need a 3C. If Berube wants David Kampf anchoring the fourth line, and Pontus Holmberg doesn’t impress, Domi may be forced to play that role.

All in all, bringing back one of the Leafs best point producers from last season for less than $4M is tidy work from Treliving, especially given his chemistry with Toronto’s biggest star.
