Toronto Maple Leafs

What should the Toronto Maple Leafs buy on Boxing Day?

Christmas may be done, but it’s now Boxing Day, the sale-filled shopping day of the year where everyone clamours to spend that Christmas cash on the hottest items.

The Toronto Maple Leafs still have the day off before they return to action tomorrow night against the Detroit Red Wings, so let’s take a look at what deals 12 Leafs players will be taking advantage of today:

Auston Matthews: Yeti ice pack and Maple Leafs Yeti travel mug

Matthews missed nearly a month of games in November due to an upper-body injury, but while the Leafs captain has been back since Nov. 30, it seems that he isn’t completely out of the woods injury-wise. Matthews has missed the Leafs’ last two contests—both losses to the New York Islanders and Winnipeg Jets—and team staff are being cautious with the star forward.

To aid in his healing process, we thought it best to hook Matthews up with a high-quality two-pound Yeti brand ice pack. This should help him take care of that injury with the tried and true method of ice-cold therapy. Then, when Matthews is relaxing his body, we thought he might enjoy sipping some festive hot chocolate out of his very own Leafs branded Yeti travel mug.

Hopefully these items can help get him back to 100% as soon as possible.

Mitch Marner: 14-karat solid gold chain

If you’ve watched Marner play, you’ve probably seen his tendency to wear a chain or sometimes even two or three at once. Well, we here at 6ix On Ice think that is simply not enough, which is why we think he should purchase this beautiful 14-karat solid gold chain from Peoples Jewellers. Marner will also likely be getting a big payday from the Leafs or another team this summer, so the 60% off price of $1,999.98 should be no problem for Marner to shell out for.

William Nylander: Dog toys

William Nylander is known for many things, including his luscious locks, electric goals and, of course, his iconic dogs, Pablo and Banksy. Whatever Nylander has planned over the holiday season, we are guessing his two furry friends will be involved, so why not reward them for everything they do for Toronto’s favourite Swede.

Imagine, Pablo being greeted this evening with a plush and squeaky toy depicting Santa himself going down the chimney. And for Banksy, why not go a little more artsy with this beautiful dog toy rendition of Santa hitting an iconic dab? Amazing finds if you ask me, and Pablo and Banksy can rest easy knowing their all-star owner saved more than five dollars on each toy.

John Tavares: Maple Leafs Pyjamas

For this choice to make sense, I want you to think back to 2018 when John Tavares first joined the Leafs after leaving the Islanders in free agency. Starting in the preseason of that year, a trend began where Islanders fans taped over their Tavares Jersey name patches and instead wrote “Pyjama Boy” instead, in honour of a picture of a very young John Tavares wearing Leafs pyjamas.

Now, while the actual picture was of him sleeping under a Leafs blanket with no Leafs pyjamas to be seen, the nickname has still stuck among disgruntled Islanders fans. But, I think it’s time for Tavares to finally get his Leafs pyjamas and become the true pyjama boy, which is why we think he should get these stylish Maple Leafs pyjama bottoms from Lids which are currently 40% off. These would go great with his magical amulet.

Nick Robertson: Plane tickets

This past offseason, there was much drama surrounding Robertson. The Leafs winger requested a trade out of Toronto, however, that trade never happened and Robertson is still a member of the Leafs. But, we feel bad for Robertson’s failed exit, so we want to give him the chance to get out of Toronto courtesy of Air Canada’s Boxing Week flight deals. Robertson can get 15% more value out of his Aeroplan points and take advantage of other flight packages. With a deal like that, maybe another trade request is imminent.

Ryan Reaves: Boxing gloves

Reaves isn’t known for his speed or goal-scoring prowess. He is known for being a tough guy who loves to drop the gloves. But, while Leafs fans love a good Reaves tilly, the winger should sometimes channel his anger in a safer manner. This is why we recommend that Reaves jump on this great deal Sporting Life is offering on a pair of Everlast boxing gloves, currently 25% off. It’s time for Reaves to flip the script this holiday season, put the gloves back on and do some Boxing Day boxing.

Morgan Rielly: Infant Leafs Jersey

Rielly currently leads all Leafs defensemen in scoring, but if you asked him, he would probably say what he’s most happy about is being a father to his son, McCormick Rielly, who was born this past August. With that, we think an excellent Boxing Day deal for Rielly and wife Tessa Virtue to take advantage of would be this infant-sized Leafs jersey now on for 30% off at Sportchek. McCormick may not be able to fit it just yet as it’s meant for an 18-month-old, but for now it can always be used as a Leafs blanket in honour of Tavares.

Chris Tanev: Goalie Pads

Tanev may not be a prolific scorer, but that isn’t what the 35-year-old is known for. Tanev is a renowned shot blocker and currently leads the league in blocked shots with 99 blocks in 34 games. With all those blocks, Tanev may as well be a goalie, which is why we think he should pick up these CCM goalie pads, currently on sale on the Just Hockey Toronto website. These would give Tanev some much-needed leg protection when blocking shots, and could also make his numbers soar even higher.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Stanley cup (sort of)

Ekman-Larsson has done a great job strengthening the Leafs’ defence corps, and it’s no surprise as he helped the Florida Panthers to a Stanley Cup just last season. But, even though he is with a new team, he should still be able to celebrate that Florida Cup victory, and what better way to do that than by drinking his hot or cold beverages from his very own Stanley cup. Not the historic trophy, but from a beautiful Stanley brand tumbler, now 25% off at Altitude Sports. This would allow Ekman-Larsson to flex his Cup win on his teammates, while also keeping his drinks at the perfect temperature behind the bench.

Jake McCabe: Signed goalie mask

McCabe is an absolute dog for the Maple Leafs, currently playing the second-most minutes on the team behind only Mitch Marner. But, McCabe almost caught a bad break when he was hit in the face by an air-borne puck during a Nov. 30 game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, but luckily, McCabe was okay following the game and didn’t have to miss additional time.

However, to protect McCabe’s face going forward, he should invest in a goalie mask to better protect his full head and face. And what better mask to buy for that purpose than a signed Curtis Joseph ‘Cujo’ goalie mask for the low 15% off sale price of $1,695.75 on goaliemaskcollector.com. While the mask may lose value if it takes a hit in-game, McCabe can rest easy knowing he is being safe in style.

Joseph Woll: Glasses

Woll didn’t have any fitting deals that really jumped out, until I checked his recent performances, and while the 26-year-old has been solid in net this season, he has allowed nine goals in the team’s last two games and had below .900 save percentages in each. For that reason, we think Woll would benefit from a fresh pair of prescription glasses to enhance his vision on the ice.

And with Zenni currently offering 70% off on select styles, there is no time like Boxing Day for Woll to get some fresh frames to hopefully get those numbers back up.

Anthony Stolarz: Senzu beans

Stolarz has been a key part of the Leafs’ goalie tandem to start the season, putting up an impressive .927 save percentage in 17 games. Unfortunately, Stolarz has to undergo knee surgery after he sustained an injury during the team’s 3–2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Dec. 12 and will miss 4–6 weeks.

If only there was a way to make Stolarz come back right away. Well, technically there is. In the anime Dragon Ball Z, characters often eat a magical bean known as a “Senzu bean” which has magical healing properties and heals any injuries instantaneously. Luckily for Stolarz, he can take a page out of Goku’s playbook and purchase his own set of Senzu bean candy for 25 percent off the original price. I’m not sure if Senzu beans show up on PED testing though, so Stolarz may need to proceed with caution.
