Trade Grade: Toronto Maple Leafs trade Bobby McMann to the Seattle Kraken

Bobby McMann has finally been traded.

The 19-goal scorer is now a member of the Seattle Kraken.

In return, the Leafs receive a 2027 second-round pick and a fourth this year. While not quite the first-round pick they’ve been rumoured to want for McMann, the result is still solid and helps the Leafs stockpile assets heading into next season.

Trade Grade: C+

Although the Leafs couldn’t get a first, trading McMann was necessary, and the return is good enough. The goal of today was to hoard as many assets as possible, and this deal helps that cause.

There was no justification for extending McMann, so any deal is a positive. But to say a second and fourth is a great deal would be a lie. Seattle won’t be great next season, so the second could be good, but the goal was a first, and that didn’t happen.

On the surface, a second is fine. But in the greater context of the deadline, only getting picks for next year and only getting two picks in the top two rounds is a miss. Not enough was done today to move the needle, and this offseason is going to be tricky.

What’s next?

This was a very disappointing deadline. There’s no doubt about that. A second rounder is okay, and dealing McMann was the right move, but none of this was enough. Treliving is not helping himself out, and it’s probably time to move on.

Good luck to McMann in Seattle.
