Leafs Game Recaps

Leafs Visual Recap 80: Toronto drops to Detroit in overtime, Matthews scores goal number 69

The Toronto Maple Leafs lost another game, this time against the Detroit Red Wings in an overtime setback. The game saw the Leafs come back from a 4–1 deficit to tie it up at four goals apiece in the second period, but a late-game penalty to Max Domi led to the Red Wings scoring the overtime goal on the power play.

On a much more positive note, Auston Matthews picked up his 69th (nice) goal of the season to be the first player since Mario Lemieux to reach that mark since 1995–96. With two games remaining, he’ll be aiming for 70 and beyond, which will be an otherworldly threshold that almost feels like the NHL isn’t ready for.
