The Toronto Maple Leafs had a two-game road trip down to Florida to finish off the season. The game had major implications on who Toronto’s Round 1 opponent would be. If Florida won, they’d leapfrog the Boston Bruins to clinch the Atlantic Division to face the Tampa Bay Lightning, leaving the Boston Bruins versus the Leafs. If Toronto won, then Boston would win the division, leaving the Panthers for the Leafs.
As fate would have it, the Panthers defeated the Leafs in their last game of the year, and therefore the Leafs will have the Bruins for what’s set to be another classic playoff matchup. One final game for Toronto remains against the Lightning, where Auston Matthews will go for goal #70.
